Women starts having a pap smear when they started being sexually active if you are not sexually active you do not need to. You should wait until you become sexually active.

Usually people suggest you start going around 18-20. You should probably go soon. There are a lot of other issues they could talk to you about and things that they need to be looking for whether you are sexually active or not. You should go soon. And then once a year after that.

The average age for a women to begin having pap smears is 18-21 or when she becomes sexually active, which ever comes first.

Most woman start having pap smears when they become sexually active, or when they reach their mid twenties.
It wouldn’t hurt for you to start now, but you’d be perfectly fine if you waited longer.

Its a good idea to have a pap smear every 3-4 years whether you are sexually active or not…Just to be safe and stay safe from anything that can occur as some things are simply not predictable…=)

Usually it is advised that you start seeing an ob/gyn when you turn 18, or you become sexually active, which ever is first. If you plan on ever having kids at some point in the future, you probably should go for somewhat regular checkups to make sure everything is normal.

Sexual activity is not the only way for things to go wrong down there, and some problems if caught early can be fixed, whereas waiting may compromise your health and ability to have children later on.

I think you should get one now. You don’t have to be sexually active or even notice symptoms for something to be wrong. Most women get one when they start their period, and then once a year after that. It can’t hurt to get one just to be safe. They aren’t bad at all, and they usually do a breast exam as well. Breast cancer is extremely common, so either way your better off to make an appointment with the OB/GYN. Just tell them you would like a pap and a regular check up. Good luck!

Most Drs. recommend having your first pap smear when you become sexually active, or when you reach the age of 21. so you should get one. the biggest reason being, is that you can get cervical cancer even if you are not sexually active, although it is a very small chance. for basic and general health down there, though, they recommend women of child bearing age, even if not active, to do regular screenings. talk to your doctor about it, and see what he/she says.

I don’t think you should have to see a gynecologist until you are sexually active, or start having some problems. Any problems you might have could be addressed with your family practitioner until he/she tells you to start seeing a gynecologist.

You should make an appointment to see a trusted gyno now. Although you are not sexually active, it is important to seek preventative health care to screen for precancerous cells of the cervix, abnormal anatomy etc. I’m sure you are a healthy woman, but it’s a nice peace of mind to have the doctor tell you the same, so that when you do decide to become intimate and possibly have children you are good to go. I do commend you for your decision to wait (for whatever reason) that is amazing! Good Luck!
